Senior & Co Blue Curaçao is a clear, blue-colored citrus liqueur from Curaçao. The base of this liqueur is the dried peel of the laraha, a bitter orange variety that grows only on the island of Curaçao. The peels are soaked and distilled, after which the alcohol is flavored and colored. The blue color does not affect the taste and is added for visual effect in cocktails. The flavor is fresh and slightly bitter, with clear notes of orange peel and a mild sweetness. This makes the liqueur suitable for mixed drinks such as the Blue Lagoon or other cocktails where citrus and color are desired. It can also be consumed neat in small amounts or over ice, but it is most commonly used as an ingredient. Senior & Co produces this liqueur on the island itself and still uses traditional methods. The company has existed since 1896 and is known for using local raw materials. A notable fact is that the laraha fruit itself is not edible, but its peel contains many aromatic oils suitable for distillation.
