The Caol Ila distillery is located on the east coast of Islay and is known for its peated single malt whisky. This 8-year-old bottling was released in 2025 for the annual Fèis Ìle festival. During this festival, distilleries often release special editions that are only available in limited quantities. The whisky is matured for at least eight years in oak casks. The influence of peat smoke is clearly present, as is typical for Caol Ila. In addition, the maturation brings notes of citrus, sea salt, and light sweetness. The combination of young maturation and peat creates a direct and recognizable profile. This type of whisky is often non-chill filtered to preserve as much flavour as possible, although this may vary by bottling. Caol Ila was founded in 1846 and is part of Diageo. It is one of the larger producers on Islay and also supplies whisky for blends. Special festival releases like this are sought after because they differ from the standard range.
