The most famous Irish whiskey brand was surprisingly founded by an immigrant from Scotland. The original distillery dates back to 1780 and was initially owned by his wife's family, but the Scot John Jameson was soon appointed as manager. In 1805, he took over the company permanently from his in-laws and changed the name to John Jameson & Son Irish Whiskey Company. This marked the beginning of an unstoppable rise.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, Dublin was the epicenter of the global whiskey industry. Jameson was the most popular whiskey in the world at the time: even then, between 4 and 5 million liters of whiskey were produced annually! That elevated status is no longer held by the brand today (that truly belongs to Johnnie Walker), but still, tens of millions of bottles of whiskey are sold every year.
The distillery in Dublin is now primarily a tourist attraction. Whiskey is hardly produced there anymore; that happens at the Midleton Distillery in Cork. Jameson is indeed made at one distillery, but is nevertheless not a single malt. This is because this unique drink consists of two different whiskey styles.
The traditional Jameson Irish Whiskey consists partly of Irish pot still whiskey. This uber-traditional Irish whiskey is made from both malted and unmalted barley and is preferably triple distilled. The triple distillation is one of the most notable features of Irish whiskey.
Grain whiskey is also part of Jameson Irish Whiskey. This is made from corn and barley and is distilled in a column. This grain whiskey forms the canvas of Jameson, while the pot still whiskey is like a brush that brings out all the beautiful flavors and aromas. The golden combination of these two whiskey styles makes Jameson Irish Whiskey unique!
In the case of Jameson, the choice is enormous. There are many different editions of this Irish whiskey brand available at Tasting Collection. The 'regular' Jameson Irish Whiskey has already been extensively covered, but what about the Deconstructed Series, which consists of the Bold, Lively, and Round? Or otherwise the Jameson Black Barrelwhich, due to aging in heavily charred bourbon and sherry casks, has an intense, rich flavor. Wherever you land, if you order before five o'clock today, you'll have your whiskey at home tomorrow.
