Label 5 Bourbon Barrel is a blended Scotch whisky that takes its name from the additional maturation in bourbon casks. These barrels, originating from the American whiskey industry, are often used only once before being repurposed in Scotland to further mature whisky. This gives the blend a slightly different balance compared to the classic Label 5. The whisky is produced by La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, one of the larger independent players in the Scotch whisky industry. The bourbon barrel maturation is intended to add extra smoothness and approachability to the blend, without losing the character of its house style. A fun fact: bourbon casks are so popular in Scotland because they are relatively affordable while still having a strong influence on maturation. As a result, they are widely used across Scotch whisky production.
