Who makes Vink Whisky?
Behind this carefully thought-out brand are well-known names that have been active in the Dutch beverage world for years. One of the driving forces behind Vink Whisky is Ruben Wolvekamp and Sebastian Kolstee, who previously turned the gin world upside down together. Six years ago, they launched Kever Genever, a brand that helped pull gin out of the slump and carefully leave its dusty image behind.
Where is Vink Whisky made?
However, behind Vink Whisky is a much larger team than just Ruben and Sebastian. Because although the two friends have a lot of passion for drinks, the expertise for making that drink is sought elsewhere. As with Kever Genever, collaboration was sought with De Tweekoppige Phoenix, where father and son Arthur and Allard Kruijt are in charge.
De Tweekoppige Phoenix is a distillery in Zaandam that has been making a name for itself for years. Master distiller Artur Kruijt is a connoisseur who works on Vink Whisky with great care and passion.
How is Vink Whisky made?
Vink consists of whiskies aged from three to seven years and is distilled from various grains. Mostly barley, but also rye, corn, and even wheat, which according to the makers gives a nice fruitiness to a distillate.
The main flavor contributor is the wood where Vink has been aged all those years. Vink Whisky Triple Wood spent time in a former bourbon cask that previously held Scotch whisky, but also in an ex-bourbon cask made of American oak, and an ex-red wine cask made of French oak from a grand cru in the Bordeaux region. The result is an accessible whisky that manages to hold your attention.
