About Tomintoul
In the Scottish Highlands, in the prestigious Glenlivet area, lies the village of Tomintoul. Here in the heart of the Speyside region is the Tomintoul Distillery. In the middle of the last century, it took more than a year to find a water source that could be used for the production of malt whisky. The search ended with the discovery of the Ballantruan Spring, a special source of the purest water, nestled in the Cromdale Hills. Nearby, on the majestic Avon River, the Tomintoul Distillery was subsequently built.
The natural environment, the high altitude, pure air, and high-quality water from the Ballantruan Spring contribute to the exceptional quality of Tomintoul Speyside Glenlivet Single Malt - the gentle dram. Angus Dundee Distillers, the owners of the Tomintoul Distillery, with a team of well-trained staff, have brought the distillery to great prosperity.
From start to finish
The production of Tomintoul Speyside Glenlivet Single Malt Whisky is a mix of magic, mystique, craftsmanship, and time. For the production of a good Single Malt Scotch Whisky, three ingredients are the most important: malted barley, yeast, and water. A source of pure water is a key element, and the Tomintoul Distillery is blessed with the constant supply of pure water from the Ballantruan Spring. Tomintoul lets the whiskies rest for at least 10 years in barrels. The best casks can sometimes remain for 16 years or even 33 years.
The last inspection
Robert Fleming, director of the Tomintoul distillery, whose family has been distilling whisky for generations, is the Master Distiller. The people on his team collectively have centuries of experience in the craft and traditions of making the finest Scotch Malt Whiskies.
