The skulls are said to be between 5,000 and 35,000 years old. The crystal skulls primarily surfaced in the 19th century and were originally attributed to the Maya or Aztec civilizations. After extensive research, it is now clear that the skulls most likely come from Germany and were made not so long ago. The myth is therefore much more interesting than the story, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it was a beautiful inspiration for Crystal Head Vodka.
This brand was founded in 2007 by actor Dan Akroyd (known from Ghost Busters and Blues Brothers) and artist John Alexander. The bottle is made by Bruni Glass in Milan, which spent a total of two years on the development. The first bottles were sold in Southern California, but Crystal Head Vodka is now available worldwide.
What is Crystal Head Vodka made from?
Crystal Head Vodka is made at the Rock Spirits distillery in Newfoundland, Canada. The exact raw material used depends on the specific expression of Crystal Head Vodka. For example, not only grains like corn and wheat are used, but also blue agave.
The original Crystal Head Vodka is made from corn from Canada. In total, the vodka is distilled four times and then reduced in strength with pure water from Newfoundland. The vodka is filtered seven times, among other things through three layers of crystal, which is also known as Herkimer diamonds.
Then there is the Crystal Head Aurora, which is made from English wheat. This vodka is even distilled five times and then filtered in the same way. Ultimately, it is the Crystal Head Onyx perhaps the most striking, because it is made from blue agave. Normally this is the main ingredient of tequila.
