The Inchgower distillery is located in the northeast of Speyside, by the coast, just south of the town of Buckie. The name Inchgower comes from the surrounding area where the distillery is situated. 'Gower' means 'garden' in Scots. The Inchgower distillery (pronounced as 'inskauwer') was built in 1871 by Alexander Wilson, a nephew of the original founder. He relocated the original distillery from his uncle, which was located in the town of Lintmill (south of Cullen) to the current site. This move came about because the landowners wanted to double the rent of the land.
The revamped Inchgower distillery was completed in 1871 and was then a model distillery, with a complete cooperage, smithy, and also a carpentry workshop. The warehouses were arranged in a square and a whole row of houses was built for the workers. To this day, practically nothing has changed. In 1930, Inchgower was taken over by the town council of Buckie and in 1936, the distillery was acquired by Arthur Bell. The new owners renovated the distillery in 1966, doubling the number of stills and the malt floors were no longer used and were repurposed as warehouses. For maturation, both bourbon and refill sherry casks are used. Of the total production, only a very small part is bottled as single malt, mainly under the Flora & Fauna label; the rest disappears into the blends of, among others, Johnnie Walker and J&B.
