There are many whisky liqueurs on the market, but Drambuie is the absolute top and favorite.Scottish whiskyis the basis of this tasty, sweet drink. The story of Drambuie goes back centuries in history. The Scots indeed have a long tradition of mixing their whisky with honey and herbs. The original recipe of Drambuie is said to have been developed for real royalty. Are you also getting a craving for a nice glass? At Tasting Collection, you can easily order a good bottle of Drambuie.
Drambuie is a whisky liqueur. But what is a whisky liqueur exactly? At its core, it is a blend of whisky (in this case from Scotland), herbs, spices, and honey. The recipe for Drambuie comes from Clan MacKinnon of the Isle of Skye. That recipe, which is several centuries old, still serves as the base. Both Scottish single malt and grain whiskies are used, some aged up to 17 years. About two-thirds is grain whisky, while the rest consists of single malt.
This whisky is flavored with a secret mix of herbs (still exactly the same as the recipe from Malcolm MacKinnon from 1908). Sugar syrup (of which heather honey is a major part) is also added. The result is a whisky liqueur with flavors of anise, nutmeg, and saffron that is wonderfully balanced.
One of the most famous historical figures in Scottish history is Bonnie Prince Charlie. He played an important role in the Jacobite uprising of 1745 against the British crown, which unfortunately failed miserably and had dramatic consequences for the Scottish Highlands. The escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Scotland made him a legend.
According to legend, Bonnie Prince Charlie took refuge with Clan MacKinnon on Skye. In gratitude, the clan received the recipe for the prince's personal drink, which would later grow into Drambuie. It is not entirely clear whether they received the recipe directly from the prince, or perhaps from his doctor or another confidant. How it exactly happened may not be very important either. The recipe was guarded by the MacKinnon's for more than 150 years. Only at the beginning of the 20th century was Drambuie sold to outsiders.
Drambuie is delightful with a few ice cubes, but a cocktail also goes down very well. For example, try one of these two delicious mixed drinks.
