History of Aultmore
The distillery was built in 1895 by Alexander Edward, who was already the owner of Benrinnes. Aultmore is located in the heart of Speyside, the largest (and perhaps most important) whisky region of Scotland. However, Edward's timing was not great. A few years after the opening of Aultmore, the Scottish whisky industry sank into a deep depression.
Due to this famous Pattison Crash, named after the brothers who are held responsible for the economic fiasco, one distillery after another had to close its doors. Aultmore was not spared that fate either. But fortunately, it was reopened in 1904, so we can still enjoy it today.
A powerful steam engine was installed during the construction of the distillery. It has powered Aultmore for over 70 years. The only reason the steam engine is no longer in operation is that electricity was installed in the distillery in 1969. The steam engine is now exhibited in the distillery.

Today, Aultmore is owned by John Dewar's & Sons, which is part of BacardiA few years ago, the packaging of Aultmore was completely revamped. Under the banner The Last Great Malts, Aultmore, along with distilleries like Aberfeldy and Craigellachie a completely new look.
On the bottles of Aultmore, Foggie Moss is now quite prominently featured. This is a reference to the hills north of the distillery. There, the Auchinderran Burn springs forth. This flows past the distillery and plays an important role in the production process. The water is used not only to make the whisky, but also as cooling water.
