Old Ballantruan, 10 Y (0.7 ℓ)

While peated whisky is mostly associated with Islay giants such as Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, there’s some great smoky single malts made on the Scottish mainland as well. One such example is Old Ballantruan. This brand is made at Tomintoul, a distillery in Speyside that is known for its rather gentle style of single malt. However, Old Ballantruan is anything but. Bottled at 50% ABV and made with heavily peated barley, Old Ballantruan deviates intensely from the Tomintoul house style.
