Star of Bombay is distilled using the vapor infusion process. Alcohol vapour passes through copper baskets filled with botanicals, allowing flavours and aromas to be absorbed gradually. In addition to the well known botanicals of Bombay Sapphire, two extra ingredients are added: bergamot peel and ambrette seeds. Bergamot is a citrus fruit, known from Earl Grey tea, and adds fresh citrus notes. Ambrette seeds contribute subtle spice with a light floral nuance. The name Star of Bombay refers to a famous sapphire that once belonged to film actress Mary Pickford. The gin has an alcohol content of 47.4 percent.
