Chivas Regal Whisky History
The story of Chivas Whisky begins in 1801. Just like many of the great Scottish whisky brands (for example Johnnie Walker), Chivas also started as a grocery and wine shop. John Forrest began his business in Aberdeen. However, it wasn't until the early 20th century that the chapter of Chivas Regal truly began. The company had already been operating for several decades under the name Chivas Brothers and even received a royal accolade from Queen Victoria.
Charles Howard, the then-director of Chivas Brothers, launched a 25-year-old Chivas Regal in 1909 in the United States. At that time, it was the very first premium blended whisky in the world. Within a year, Chivas Regal gained a great reputation in the upper echelons of American society.
In the years that followed, Chivas Regal survived two world wars. This partly led to a 12-year-old to release a version so that stocks remained somewhat balanced. Shortly thereafter, Strathisla was also purchased, a distillery that still forms the heart of Chivas Regal today. The whisky brand is now one of the biggest success stories in Scottish whisky. Millions of bottles fly off the shelves each year.

Blending whisky is an art. Sandy Hyslop is the current master blender of Chivas Regal. He is responsible for the wonderful flavors and aromas that are in your glass. A blended whisky consists of a mix of different grain whiskies and single malts. Sandy Hyslop's goal is to create a complex and coherent whole from all those different flavors.
As master blender, Sandy Hyslop has an amazing sense of taste and smell. He smells around 1500 to 2000 different whisky samples weekly. He ensures the quality of Chivas and makes sure that every bottle has that characteristic, luxurious, exceptional flavors that have made Chivas Regal so famous.
