In 1703 was er al sprake van de productie van Rum door de Mount Gay distilleerderij op het eiland Barbados. Daarmee zijn ze waarschijnlijk de oudste werkende Rum distilleerderij ter wereld. Er wordt nog steeds traditioneel gewerkt in de Engelse stijl met koperen Pot Stills, waarin ze 2 maal distilleren. De Eclipse is genoemd naar de totale zonsverduistering en het verschijnen van de komeet Halley in 1910. Door de gebrande ex-bourbonvaten heeft de Rum ook lichte rooktonen.

Flor de Cana (bloem van de suikerriet) is de bekendste Rum van Nicaragua. De distilleerderij was geopend in 1890 en ligt aan de voet van de San Cristobal vulkaan in het Noordwesten. De distilleerderij is opgericht door de familie Pellas. De vijfde generatie is nu aan het bewind. Hun Rums zijn gemaakt van suikerriet molasse in de Spaanse stijl. De 7 jaar oude Rum is een Gran Reserva en heeft gerijpt op ex-Jack Daniels vaten.

Met een geschiedenis die teruggaat tot 1908 wordt Ron Abuelo Anejo rum geproduceerd door Varela Hermanos SA in Panama, Midden-Amerika. Don Jose Varela Blanco richtte de eerste suikerfabriek op in de toen gevormde Republiek Panama en is een van de heel weinigen die hun eigen suikerriet verbouwt. Deze jongste specialiteit rijpte 3 jaar op Amerikaans wit eiken. Zeker goed genoeg om puur te drinken, maar ook fantastisch om mee te mixen.

De Appleton plantage bestond al in 1655, toen de Engelsen Jamaica op de Spanjaarden veroverden. Sinds 1749 wordt er ook rum geproduceerd. De Appleton is een Engelse stijl Rum, Jamaica rum is een zeer harde Rum met fruit en hints van rubber. De Rum is Pot Still gestookt en gerijpt in Jack Daniels vaten. Deze Signature is een blend van wel 15 Rums, na het blenden ligt de Rum nog enkele maanden op nieuwe eikenhouten vaten.

Chairman’s Reserve is een blend van rum die 2 maal is gedistilleerd in pot stills en rum die is gedistilleerd in Coffey stills. De 2 stijlen worden gehuwd na de houtrijping, en daarna opnieuw in eikenhouten vaten gevuld voor een laatste finish. Chairman’s Reserve is afkomstig van het eiland St. Lucia en is in 1999 gecreëerd door de toenmalige chairman, Laurie Barnard. Hij wilde een drank maken die de iconische rumstijl van St. Lucia eer aandoet. Chairman’s Reserve is uitgegroeid tot het vlaggenschip van St. Luci, en staat bekend om zijn evenwichtige stijl en volmaakte finesse.

Pampero Seleccion is een donkere rum uit Venezuela, gemaakt door maestro ronero Luis Figueroa. Voor Pampero Seleccion kiest hij tien rumvaten uit die eerder zijn gebruikt om Bourbon of sherry te rijpen. Deze veelzijdig rums blendt hij met andere complexe rums, die geproduceerd zijn in drie distilleerkolommen. Pampero was de eerste in Venezuela die haar rum rijpte in eikenhoutenvaten. Daarmee omarmden ze de vrije geest van de Llanero – de Venezolaanse cowboys die hielpen om Centraal-Amerika te bevrijden van Spaanse kolonisten. Geniet van 70 jaar geschiedenis en traditie met Pampero Seleccion.

Bacardí staat bekend om hun witte rum, maar wist je dat ze ook geweldige gerijpte rum maken? De Bacardí Anejo Cuatro is daar een mooi voorbeeld van. Deze rum rijpte vier jaar in een tropisch klimaat in ex-Bourbonvaten. Voor de productie zijn distilleerkolommen gebruikt, en natuurlijk is ook de kenmerkende houtskoolfiltering toegepast voor een soepele afdronk. Probeer de Bacardí Anejo Cuatro ook eens met ginger ale en limoen.

Gosling – Black Seal is een kenmerkende donkere rum die in Bermuda wordt geblend. De rum rijpt 3 tot 6 jaar in vaten van Amerikaans eikenhout waarin eerder bourbon werd gerijpt. Goslings Black Seal is gedistilleerd in distilleerketels en -kolommen en wordt al sinds de 19e eeuw gemaakt. De naam is afgeleid van de zwarte was die vroeger werd gebruikt om de opvallende fles te dichten.

Ron Barceló Gran Añejo is een premium rum uit de Dominicaanse Republiek, geproduceerd door Ron Barceló. Deze rum is een blend van zorgvuldig geselecteerde Dominicaanse rums, die tot zes jaar rijpen in gebruikte Amerikaanse eikenhouten vaten, oorspronkelijk bestemd voor bourbon. Deze rijping draagt bij aan de ontwikkeling van zijn smaak en karakter. Deze Rum is gebotteld op 37,5% alcohol.

Planteray - Original Dark is een blend van distillaten uit Barbados en Jamaica. Na distillatie rijpt de rum in eikenhouten vaten, die eerder zijn gebruikt voor bourbon. De producent gebruikt daar een methode die bekendstaat als ‘double ageing’: een eerste rijping in het Caribisch gebied en een tweede in het koelere Franse klimaat. Het alcoholpercentage is 40%.

El Dorado, 5 Y wordt gebotteld met een alcoholpercentage van 40 procent.
