The whisky from Aberfeldy is highly regarded. Since the end of the 19th century, single malt has been crafted in this Scottish town in an artisanal way. Among other things, due to its characteristic honey flavor, this distillery has many fans. It is high time to expand that community of enthusiasts, as Aberfeldy is favored by both advanced and beginner whisky drinkers. Therefore, get to know this special whisky now.
John Dewar & Sons is a name that particularly because of the excellent blended whiskies a bell rings. But to make blended whisky, you first need whiskies from different distilleries. To meet that need, a distillery was established at the end of the 19th century. This was done very deliberately in Aberfeldy, a small village in the Scottish Highlands, not far from the birthplace of the founder of John Dewar & Sons. Much of the production of Aberfeldy is forDewar's White Labelused, and that is also why Aberfeldy is often called the spiritual home of Dewar's.
The water source of Dewar's is the Pitilie Burn. This water plays an important role in the production of Aberfeldy's single malt whisky. But just as interesting is that the Pitilie Burn has long had an attraction for gold seekers, as gold has been found in this modest river in the past. That is also why Aberfeldy is sometimes referred to as the 'Golden Dram'.
A long fermentation is one of the trademarks of Aberfeldy, perhaps even more so in the past than now. During that process, the foundation is laid for the characteristic honey flavor. To further emphasize that trademark, Aberfeldy now collaborates with local beekeepers. The goal is to find the perfect honey for the Aberfeldy Golden Dram Cocktail, but also to draw attention to the immense importance of bees. These little creatures are responsible for pollinating one-third of our food.
The golden color of the whisky perfectly matches the nickname of this single malt. Aberfeldy gets this from aging in oak barrels that previously held bourbon or sherry. By the way, Aberfeldy's whisky is made without peat. This means there is not a hint of smoke to be found.
Since 2014, Aberfeldy has been gaining more popularity. At that time, the packaging was revamped and John Dewar's & Sons increasingly emphasized the quality of this great single malt. Nowadays, there are always fine whiskies from Aberfeldy available. From the standard12-year-oldto special and limited editions.
