How is Casamigos Tequila made?
Casamigos Tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave. These agaves grow in the red clay soil and the cool climate of the Highlands of Jalisco in Mexico. Then the agaves are roasted for 72 hours in brick ovens. That is significantly longer than many other producers. The master distiller of Casamigos uses a special, proprietary yeast strain. This ensures a refined flavor that cannot be achieved with commercial yeast. The fermentation also lasts 80 hours, giving the yeast every chance to bring a beautiful complexity to Casamigos Tequila.
George Clooney & Casamigos Tequila
One of the biggest movie stars of all time made world news when he sold his tequila brand for one billion dollars to the beverage company Diageo in 2017. It started as a hobby for George Clooney and his friend/business partner Rande Gerber (Cindy Crawford's husband). The two are neighbors on the Casamigos estate in Mexico and regularly shared a bottle of tequila. The idea to make their own tequila was born there.
Earning money was not central at all when it was founded in 2013. At the time, the most important thing, as Gerber once explained, was to make a tasty and affordable tequila. In two years, the friends tried seven hundred different samples and eventually found what they considered the perfect tequila. The rest is history.
Cocktails with Casamigos
Of course, tequila you can drink as a shot with a bit of salt and lime. - 45ml Casamigos Reposado or Blanco
- 30ml fresh lime juice
- 15ml agave syrup
- 7ml fresh orange juice
- 7ml orange liqueur
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake ingredients well. Strain contents into a tumbler with ice. Garnish with a slice of lime.
