Is Jack Daniel's Bourbon?
The simple answer? Yes, it is bourbon.But the reality is more nuanced. Although Jack Daniel's officially meets the classification for bourbon, they themselves refer to it as Tennessee Whiskey, named after the American state where the distillery is located. It is therefore not 100% the same as the average bourbon. The difference lies in the so-called Lincoln County Process.
During this step in the production process, the whiskey is filtered through charcoal from sugar maple. This happens before the whiskey matures in barrels. It takes about 3 to 5 days for the unmatured whiskey to completely pass through the meters-thick layer of charcoal. It is this process that provides an extra smooth drinking experience.

Dr. Lyman Kelber from the American Bureau of Chemistry and Soils was sent to the southern United States in 1907. The history of Jack Daniel's
The history of Jack Daniel's begins with its founder, Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel, born in 1850 in Lynchburg, Tennessee, United States. Jack Daniel was an enterprising and ambitious man, who learned the craft of whiskey making at a young age from Dan Call, a local preacher and distiller.
In 1866, at just 16 years old, Jack Daniel took a big step in his career when he established his own distillery. With the help of Dan Call and the unique quality of his whiskey, Jack Daniel quickly began to make a name for himself in the region.
In 1875, Jack Daniel was officially registered as a distillery and began marketing his whiskey under the name "Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey." One of the key decisions Jack Daniel made was to distill his whiskey with charcoal-filtered water from a nearby limestone spring. This process is known as the "Lincoln County Process" and contributes to the distinctive smoothness and flavor of Jack Daniel's whiskey.
In 1884, to protect his whiskey from imitation, Jack Daniel had his distillery officially registered as the first registered distillery in the United States, a unique achievement that sets Jack Daniel's apart as a brand.
Unfortunately, in 1911, a few years after achieving national and international fame, Jack Daniel passed away from blood poisoning. Although Jack Daniel was no longer there, his legendary whiskey lived on.
