The different types of rum
- White rum, also known as Light Rum, is a rum that is clear in color. It has a more neutral taste which makes it very suitable for mixing.
- Brown rum, also known as Dark Rum, is a rum that has aged in wooden barrels and has thus acquired its color. Besides the color, the wooden barrels also add extra flavor to the rum. These are often delicious to drink neat or with just ice.
- Gold rum, also known as Golden Rum, which is between a white and a brown rum, often aged in wooden barrels for a shorter period to give it that extra depth, but short enough to remain fresh.
- Overproof Rum, also known as High Proof Rum, is a rum that contains more than 75% alcohol.
- Spiced rum, also known as Flavored Rum, is an increasingly popular type of rum to which spices are added to make it a bit spicier.
- Flavored rum is a rum where the rum is given extra flavor by adding additional ingredients, such as Coconut or Orange.
- Cachaca, the Brazilian cousin of rum, is always made from freshly pressed sugarcane juice.
