While the name might suggest otherwise, the Darkness, 8 Y is far from a nefarious single malt. Instead it alludes to the color of this undisclosed single malt—the result of an interesting maturation. After a period of time in ex-bourbon barrels, this whisky is transferred to custom-made Oloroso sherry octaves for at least 3 months. These small casks initiate a supercharged infusion of flavor because of an increased surface area to volume ratio compared to much larger sherry butts.
