About Deanston
The buildings of the distillery were first used for a cotton factory. From 1966, whisky was produced in the distillery. The surrounding area was excellent for whisky production. It was taken over by Invergordon in 1972. In 1982, the distillery closed its doors. But a few years later, production began again. The distillery was now owned by Burn Stewart just like Tobermory and Bunnahabhain. About 10 to 15% of the production is marketed as single malt. The rest is used in blends. Since Master Blender Ian MacMillan took over in the 90s, a quiet revolution has started. Ian is a purist; distilling is craftsmanship and nothing else. He subtly changed every part of the production process. And those changes can be tasted in the 2 new malts. Pure and clean whisky as it should be!
