About Ben Nevis
The mountain Ben Nevis (Scottish Gaelic: Beinn Nibheis) is the highest mountain in Scotland and is located in the Grampian Mountains in the county of Inverness at the entrance to Glenmore. It is also the highest mountain in the entire United Kingdom. Ben Nevis is 1344 meters high and is located near Fort William, about 160 km north of Glasgow.
The Ben Nevis Distillery was founded in 1825 by John MacDonald. His son, Donald, was particularly successful with Ben Nevis whisky. In 1887, he increased production tenfold. In 1955, Ben Nevis became the property of Joseph Hobbs. The distillery was closed again in 1984, and once more in 1989. In 1989, Ben Nevis was taken over by the JapaneseNikka Whisky Distilling Company Ltd. In 1990, the distillery was reopened. The majority of production is used in blends.
