Five Scottish whisky masters
The story of Ballantine's is the story of the masterblenders. These artisans have an amazing sense of smell and taste and are ultimately responsible for the quality and popularity of this outstanding Scottish whisky. And although Ballantine's has a nearly 200-year history, only five masterblenders have been at the helm.
The very first was of course George Ballantine, who built a great reputation for his whisky together with his sons and grandsons. So much so that his company received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1895, it's like a kind of royal supplier. It was the ultimate recognition of the hard work of the Ballantine family.
Sandy Hyslop is the current masterblender of Ballantine's. He is not afraid to innovate and has already launched Ballantine's Brasil, a Scottish whisky with lime flavor. Every day, Sandy smells about 250 whisky samples so that he can maintain the good name of his favorite whisky brand.
Is Ballantine's good whisky?
It is a question that is often asked, but one that is not so easy to answer. After all, you can't argue about taste. A whisky that has been popular for centuries must undoubtedly have good qualities. The fact that almost 200,000 bottles are sold worldwide every day is also a very good sign.
At least as important are the different whiskies that master blender Sandy Hyslop has at his disposal. And that is well taken care of with, among others, single malts from Miltonduff, Glenburgie, and Glentauchers. In total, about 50 single malts and 4 grain whiskies are used to create the unique flavor profile of Ballantine's.
