In the last 10 years or so, Scotland has gone through an explosion of new (craft) distilleries. Way ahead of the curve, Arran distillery was founded in 1995, making it the first of the current new wave of distilleries. They’ve built a strong reputation since and are already an established brand. Arran also dares to experiment, proven by the Arran Small Batch St. Emilion Cask 2009. Full maturation in wine casks is rare — producers often only finish their whisky in these types of barrels. It’s up to you to decide if it is a success.
