With a history dating back to 1908 Ron Abuelo Anejo rum produced by Varela Hermanos SA in Panama, Central America. Don Jose Varela Blanco established the first sugar factory in the then-formed Republic of Panama and is one of the very few people who grow their own sugar cane. This latest specialty matured three years in American white oak. Certainly good enough to drink pure, but also great for mixing.

Abuelo - Añejo

The Appleton plantation already existed in 1655, when the English conquered Jamaica on the Spaniards. Rum has also been produced since 1749. The Appleton is an English style Rum, Jamaica rum is a very hard Rum with fruits and hints of rubber. The Rum is Pot Still distilled and matured in Jack Daniel's barrels. This Signature is a blend of up to 15 Rums, after blending the Rum is matured a few months extra on new oak barrels.

Chairman’s Reserve is a blend of double distilled pot still and Coffey still rums, all distilled on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. The 2 styles of rum are married together after maturation, and then filled into oak casks again for blending and final finishing. It was first blended in 1999, overseen by then chairman, Laurie Barnard, as part of a special project to create a fine quality rum to represent the iconic style of St. Lucian rum. Chairman’s Reserve has become the flagship St. Lucian rum, known for its harmonious style and well-rounded finesse.

Goslings - Black Seal is a distinctive, dark rum blended in Bermuda. The rum ages for 3 to 6 yeas in re-charred American oak barrels that have previously been used to age bourbon. Goslings Black Seal is distilled in both pot stills and continuous stills and has been around since the 19th century. It’s called Black Seal after the black sealing wax that was used to seal the champagne bottles in which it was reclaimed from the British Officer’s Mess.

Ron Barceló Gran Añejo is a premium rum from the Dominican Republic, produced by Ron Barceló. This rum is a blend of carefully selected Dominican rums, aged up to six years in used American oak barrels originally intended for bourbon. The aging process contributes to the development of its flavor and character. This rum is bottled at 37.5% alcohol.

This rum is a blend of different distillates that have matured for at least five years in oak casks. For distillation, the producer uses traditional wooden stills. These installations are unique and have been used in Guyana for generations. El Dorado 5 Y is bottled at an alcohol content of 40 percent.

In 1703 was er al sprake van de productie van Rum door de Mount Gay distilleerderij op het eiland Barbados. Daarmee zijn ze waarschijnlijk de oudste werkende Rum distilleerderij ter wereld. Er wordt nog steeds traditioneel gewerkt in de Engelse stijl met koperen Pot Stills, waarin ze 2 maal distilleren. De Eclipse is genoemd naar de totale zonsverduistering en het verschijnen van de komeet Halley in 1910. Door de gebrande ex-bourbonvaten heeft de Rum ook lichte rooktonen.

Flor de Cana (bloem van de suikerriet) is de bekendste Rum van Nicaragua. De distilleerderij was geopend in 1890 en ligt aan de voet van de San Cristobal vulkaan in het Noordwesten. De distilleerderij is opgericht door de familie Pellas. De vijfde generatie is nu aan het bewind. Hun Rums zijn gemaakt van suikerriet molasse in de Spaanse stijl. De 7 jaar oude Rum is een Gran Reserva en heeft gerijpt op ex-Jack Daniels vaten.

Pampero Seleccion is een donkere rum uit Venezuela, gemaakt door maestro ronero Luis Figueroa. Voor Pampero Seleccion kiest hij tien rumvaten uit die eerder zijn gebruikt om Bourbon of sherry te rijpen. Deze veelzijdig rums blendt hij met andere complexe rums, die geproduceerd zijn in drie distilleerkolommen. Pampero was de eerste in Venezuela die haar rum rijpte in eikenhoutenvaten. Daarmee omarmden ze de vrije geest van de Llanero – de Venezolaanse cowboys die hielpen om Centraal-Amerika te bevrijden van Spaanse kolonisten. Bacardí staat bekend om hun witte rum, maar wist je dat ze ook geweldige gerijpte rum maken? De Bacardí Anejo Cuatro is daar een mooi voorbeeld van. Deze rum rijpte vier jaar in een tropisch klimaat in ex-Bourbonvaten. Voor de productie zijn distilleerkolommen gebruikt, en natuurlijk is ook de kenmerkende houtskoolfiltering toegepast voor een soepele afdronk. Probeer de Bacardí Anejo Cuatro ook eens met ginger ale en limoen.

Don Andres Brugal Montaner had één droom toen hij in 1888 naar de Dominicaanse Republiek verhuisde: het maken van rum perfectioneren. Tegenwoordig is het vijfde generatie van de Brugal-familie die de standaard van hun voorvader hooghoudt. Brugal Anejo rijpt tot 5 jaar in ex-bourbonvaten van Amerikaans eiken. Het resultaat is een zuivere, soepele en niet-zo-zoete rum die je lang bijblijft.

Planteray - Original Dark is een blend van distillaten uit Barbados en Jamaica. Na distillatie rijpt de rum in eikenhouten vaten, die eerder zijn gebruikt voor bourbon. De producent gebruikt daar een methode die bekendstaat als ‘double ageing’: een eerste rijping in het Caribisch gebied en een tweede in het koelere Franse klimaat. Het alcoholpercentage is 40%.
