Cragganmore, 12 Y

Cragganmore, 12 Y

Speyside

John Smith, Scotland's most experienced distiller at the time, built the Cragganmore distillery in 1869. The spirit stills, which he designed himself, stand out because of their unusual shape. He himself designed them at the time to produce a lighter end product. The heavier alcohols condense, fall back into the still and do not end up in the final product. This explains the enormous complexity of the Cragganmore malt. Whisky journalists Michael Jackson and Dave Broom both chose Cragganmore as their big favorite in this price range.

Cardhu, 12 Y

Speyside

Cardhu, one of the oldest distilleries in Speyside, was founded in 1811 by farmer John Cumming and his wife Helen. Like many of his contemporaries, Cumming started out as an illicit distiller. Sometime later Cardhu became one of the first officially licensed distilleries in 1823. Currently Cardhu is also known for being the spiritual home of Johnnie Walker. Cardhu produces a typical Speyside Scotch single malt whisky – beautifully balanced and composed.

Made at Distillerie Warenghem, Armorik was the first ever French single malt when it was released in 1998. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, the distillery introduced the Armorik Triagoz Lightly Peated in 2018, which was their first ever peated expression. This whisky is also a tribute to the Triagoz wild archipelago, just off the coast Côte de Granit Rose. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels, this French single malt was peated to an impressive 50ppm. Only 2,000 bottles were released.
