De Bottled in Bond-wet werd eind 19e eeuw in Amerika in het leven geroepen, en elke fles die voldoet aan de eisen in die wet, staat garant voor een hoge kwaliteit. Een bottled-in-bond whiskey moet gedistilleerd worden bij één distilleerderij tijdens één seizoen, en moet minsten 4 jaar oud zijn en gebotteld worden op 50 procent. Het is met recht een kwaliteitsstempel.
